I'm so excited... I put my christmas money together (and raided the penny jar) to afford the pro tanda and my husband will be on his way home with it very soon.

Let the transformation begin.

Have to admit I've been sold by all the reviews for both the tanda and clarisonic. With two small children (one with autism) and a few years of sleep deprivation I think this is a good time to give back to myself and give mother nature a helping hand. I've just hit 40 (although I'm told I look younger probably because I've never smoked) but have been feeling a bit worn out by motherhood of late. I explained it to my husband, at 40 my face is an investment. I'm bringing the spa to myself.

Will let everyone know how it works out. It seems every second review called the clarisonic a miracle, and I've just order the mia here after seeing a customer's youtube video. (Granted most of the people in the youtube videos are young and would have gorgeous skin anyway. But I'm hopeful.

I was encouraged when I notice the mia is waterproof, and the speed seems to be suited to sensitive skin. I also read the makeup alley reviews and more mia users said they would make the purchase a second time given the chance than for the pro clarisonic (although everyone seems overjoyed by the results.)

I thought the clarisonic could help make the tanda more effective.

Now I just have to work on the fitting in sleep and exercise...

p.s. I pulled my back yesterday. Maybe my first experiment will be to see if the red light tanda can help speed up healing. Too much to hope for?

update:

Day Two

Just started with the blue/red light pro tanda a day ago. Have done three blue light sessions and two red so far.

It was good timing as my pms breakout was just starting to flare up, and yes the tanda cleared it up! Even a cyst near my eyebrow from trying to pluck a hair too soon has disappeared. I can't even see where some of the more raised bumps even were.

As for the red light, well it's probably too early to tell, and most be harder to measure results because other things that people might do like drinking water, getting sleep, exercise and the right skin cream could all have effects, but perhaps my pores are a little smaller... Determined to stick with it and see what happens. At this point it cold be placebo. Did i concentrate on the flaws before, and am looking for positives now? Too early to tell.

In the back of my mind I have questions. On the box there are before and after pictures and the women is smiling in the before picture so of course there would be more visible laughter lines.

Well a little wishful thinking never hurt anyone, but I hope it is more than that.

I did notice more of a glow (I also just came down with a slight cold a few days ago so my skin was looking especially dull, and after the first treatment I looked liked I had come in from lying in the sun, without the tan or burn... just a bit of glow.) It will be nice if it tones, espcially my jaw line which darn it is just starting to slacken ever so slightly. I'll never get a facelift, but short of that this is worth a shot. It was kind of relaxing. some people say it is too hot, but I can't understand why, it barely felt more than the heat of the sun on a warm spring morning. With my eyes closed and the light nearby I could almost imagine i was sitting in the sun.

We get the most sun in Canada here on average per year, but in the winter we may only see four hours of sunlight a day, and then we are bundled up. Maybe I feel my skin is craving light for that reason, and for that reason alone it is worth it. I already have solux lights around the house, which are energy efficient and as close the the natural spectrum of daylight as you can find, and also used for light therapy for SAD, and in major museums as the best lighting for art... but it is not the same as sitting in the sun and feeling light on your skin. Perhaps the tanda gives me that feeling, and if I end up looking refreshed to boot I won't complain.

More updates later. it may be a while before my clarisonic arrives so i'll have a chance to see how the tanda is working on it's own for now.

Update: 6 oclock in morning Day Three

It was pretty late last night before I had a chance to sit down and down and do a full blue and red light session. Is it embarrassing to admit I turned on the music from the spa channal? Still finding sessions relaxing. My husband joked "are you turning this place into a red light district again?" Just has to get up after a few hours sleep with my toddler, and have to wake my five year old in a little bit anyway.. so took notes in the mirror. Not sure if my memory is playing tricks on me. Perhaps I never looked so carefully to see how the lines shifted on my face before. Did they usually disappear after four or five hours sleep? They are considerably lessened, barely noticable. I can tell the areas where I may have missed and will try to start there next time. the one samll pms zit on my chin came back and had worked it way out, so i gave it an extra blue mini blue light session (I think it beats putting an acid on my skin... maybe the yogurt facial yesterday brought it out again anyway. Should have avoided skin that was healing.) Will do full blue light morning session later on after when I have more time.

Hope this is not too much information. I'm thinking of keeping a running diary at least over the first thirty days (not every day) to keep track of the changes for myself. It might be useful to someone considering either product (and if it helps me earn a discount on clarisonic brushes) all the better!

Feel free to ask questions.

btw not finding a need to wear the googles As a painter I'm finding it kind of interesting to see the effects from the lights while i'm using it. Not sure how soon that will grow old. Hard to watch tv late at night like some people do, or at least last night. My eyes were too tired for contacts. So I turned it into a kind of meditation...

Jenny, thanx for the updates so far. I've been wondering about the Tanda system for a while, b/c I went to a spa over the summer and the blue light is what was recommended for me, in regards to hormonal acne & scaring afterwards.

My question is, how long do you have to sit/lie there for under the light each time? It's one thing to have a facialist sit there and watch while I'm dozing off, it's quite another for me to actually hold on to it myself & stay awake! (I know that sounds stupid, but it's the truth!)

Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings.

It depends on which brand you get. The pro comes with a larger surface area so it covers more in less time. I don't think there is a recommended time limit for the blue other than up to 3 minutes for a problem area. You just move it around or hold it still for longer on areas where you want to focus. So far it's holding the charge quite well and I've been also using the blue light on my arms and shoulders and there seems to be tons of time before a charge runs out. (Some people have complaints about the tanda's ability to hold a charge after a period of time.) I did try it with the plug directly in the tanda and it wasn't too awkard at all, and if the charge ran out during a blue light/red light session I'd just plug it into the wall. the cord is plenty long enough for my needs.

(Small bumps appeared on my arms for the first time when i was nursing a newborn around the clock in a heatwave... scrubbing with a loofah got rid of much, but i'm hoping this may help more.)

The regular red light tanda is meant to take up to 18 minutes for a session, and the pro up to 12 minutes if that gives you an indication of time for the tanda clear. There seems to be more limits for the red, but i'm not sure why. Safety perhaps or to achieve optimum effect? There is meant to be at least a 20 hr window between each session for the red and used once a day, but the blue is to be used morning and night, and the time beyond the 3 minutes in one spot upper limit seems flexible. Some people double up on the time and do one session at night for convenience, from the reviews I've read.

It also beeps every so often to remind you to move it. I found this nice because it meant I could relax and not worry about losing track of time. The beep is pretty gentle.. not your alarm clock variety. If you want to start another session you just press the big orange button again and a little green light signals you start. It shuts off automatically after so long, or if it overheats (I found it little more than warm so I'm not sure how that could happen.) The only thing I'd be cautious of is being in a place (if you are really sleepy) where it could fall safely. I could see someone could risk dropping the device if they were trying to pull yoga moves to reach a difficult to reach spot on their back (and if they are a tad clumsy like me.)

There does seem to be clear evidence that the blue light works and is FDA backed, but tanda does have a page on their site that there is a certain kind of acne it won't help, and they have a series of questions and answers to help determine which kind of acne it will or will not help.

I think the red light is meant to be for scars among other benefits. I've been trying it on a cut just to see. One person even said she swore it cleared her chronic sinusitis, and I'm wondering if it is my imagination that my head cold seems a little clearer after a session. Could it be the blue light fighting bacteria or the red light fighting inflammation?

Hope that helps.

The last post was written pretty quickly on my way to take care of the little ones so I hope it makes sense. Just realized I should have added the red light is only once a day for the first 30 days. After that it is only 2 to 3 times a week.

Update: by yesterday's entry this must be day 4. up again after four hours with my toddler and have something to report. I'm sightly stunned. Yesterday I thought it was my imagination that my skin was becoming smoother and makeup went on more easily, but today there is a discernible difference: the pores, especially on my nose are a fraction of what they were. This stunned me.

AT this point I am very glad I got it into my head to make this purchase despite the fact my husband thought I was a little crazy to spend my christmas money on what he thought might be quackery.

My skin tone seems more resilient and firmer. I'm going to give it a day or so so I can get more use out of the vegetable peel sample that came with the tanda. A couple of small bumps that may have started to emerge last night have gone back down.

I only wish this device had been around 15, 20 years ago and I could have avoided the couple of pock marks that I've learned to live with, and that were the result of stress induced breakouts.

but wow! Have to admit I may have used the red light a little longer than recommended, although not on the area I'm most surprised by. It's not a trick of the light, or that they are clearer.. the pores have actually become smaller. I don't remember when they were last like that, the change has been so gradual over the years.

Jenny, the blue light is used to fight bacteria...that's why it's recommended for acne...and from what I gathered, the red light is supposed to help fine lines. Not sure about the inflammation claim...this is all due to the different wavelengths, so it wouldn't surprised me that it did do that.

I'm glad to hear you're seeing results...I must say, holding that thing on one area for 3 minutes is too long for me LoL 18 minutes is not gonna happen! Haha! I may just have to stick with going to the spa for those treatments, but I am inching closer to wanting to buy the Clarisonic!

What happened to the Clarisonic Pro? Eskincarestore is not selling them anymore?!

I've been getting the LED treatments at a medspa for the past 6 months or so -- for the first 3-4 months, I went weekly, and now I only go monthly and only get the LED treatment when I get a microdermabrasion.
I've been toying with the idea of purchasing my own LED kit, but like Coffeebean, I don't think I'll have the determination to hold the light for that long. Hahaha. I like it how when I go to the spa, I just lie there and everything is done for me -- I even get massaged!
But yeah, the blue light is good for killing the acne bacteria, reducing your sebum production, and also calming inflammed skin. The red light is good for collagen production, correcting skin discolouration, and some other thing I can't remember.
I read somewhere about people who got too excited about the in home LED products that they overused it and they broke out like crazy. I don't know if it's true though.

Coffeebean! Get the clarisonic! It is VERY lovely :D The mia is fine! I got it for my sister and friend for christmas and they both love it! The only thing they complained to be was how they can't count and how they always ended up washing their faces longer than the recommended time.

But the Mia has a 1 minute timer on it, so how could they wash their faces for longer than the recommended time?

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'll have to read your posts again when I'm more awake... I'm going to have to find a window earlier in the evening and move my session up earlier. Last thing at night is starting to cut into my sleep which is already curtailed with my toddler. Have to do a better job arranging my schedule.

I think I must by going overtime with the red light. I should cut back but it is very tempting to keep going. It should only take 12 minutes with the pro light. I will either have to be faster and not overdo, do it earlier or both. Sure I will get more effect if I get some "beauty sleep". In a month I will only need to do the red 2 to 3 times a week. Probably a good thing my back was pulled my back now because I can't work out for a while anyway.. that will free that time up later when I need to schedule exercise in again.

I have find out how fast the blue light can kill bacteria on skin where there is not a lot of problem (preventative) so I can reduce time. I just realized I should be doing the full three minutes on an area when there is a problem. I was just moving after 30 seconds with each beep..

Will try to get more rest, and try to stay awake today.

It's a funny thing how you can actually feel your skin firm up after a session. I'd say I see more improvements today but it could be a trick of a light and my eyes are too tired to trust.

the mia stops before they reached the other parts of their face so they ended up always washing their faces for more than 1 minute.

Ok ok, I'll attempt to get closer to the cash register with the Clarisonic LOL...no seriously, I will most likely buy it online, but I prefer the classic version, I'm not a huge fan of the travel-capability of it. I mean I carry my Sonicare toothbrush with the sanitizer everywhere!

That reminds me to ask Fiona-- That video about the Clarisonic vs. Toothbrush...is it true that they're pretty much the same? It's intriguing, b/c everytime I'm in Sephora and I turn on the Clarisonic and use it on the back of my hand, it certainly doesn't feel the same as my toothbrush. I mean, I'm sure that the toothbrush bristles are harder and whatever, but it just does not feel the same...do ppl really use the Sonicare instead?!

My mia is still on backorder (till tomorrow I think).

Just had to say I'm really glad I just reread part of the manual. It says DO NOT to use the tanda on the throat as it could stimulate the thyroid gland. I did a little. I'm putting down my recent loss of appetite to the head cold though.
