Night Habits That Can Ruin Your Skin

It is possible to achieve healthy, radiant skin by having a proper skincare routine. However, did you know that a good night's sleep can also help you achieve your best skin ever? Although the quantity and quality of sleep vary from person to person, there are common habits that really affect and might ruin the skin.




1. Not Sleeping Enough
According to a recent poll, about 40% of Americans revealed they only sleep in less than seven hours - which is the recommended amount of sleep. In case you havent had a good, quality sleep for the past few days, your skin could be in trouble. It may end up looking dull and dark circles will also appear under your eye area. The ideal time for your skin to breathe and regenerate itself is while you sleep. As you sleep, your skin undergoes a regeneration process where it produces new collagen which prevents sagging. Overnight, your skin can also recover lost moisture. Thus, not getting enough sleep has a big impact on your skin resulting in dullness, more visible wrinkles, and dryness.


2. Not Removing Makeup 
If you have gone out during the entire day, your skin got exposed to dirt, environmental pollutants and free radicals which all go deeply into your pores causing breakouts as well as speeding up the aging process of the skin. The best way to prevent this from happening is to wash off or wipe away your day makeup at night. This will allow your skin to breathe and be free from impurities.


3. Not Washing Sheets
Your pillowcase and bed sheet harbor more germs than you think. If you keep on placing your face and body down on those for over a week, you increase the number of bacteria and residue that will fester your skin. This is why it is recommended to wash and change your sheets at least once a week in order to prevent the transfer of bacteria, oils, and other impurities in your skin.


4. Not Sleeping On Your Back
If you havent heard yet, the best sleeping position is when you allow your head, neck, and spine to rest in a neutral position. This means sleeping on your back while facing the ceiling leaves no extra pressure in the said areas. Back sleepers tend to be more comfortable as soon as they wake up compared to the ones who sleep face down or by side. Sleeping facedown will cause back pain and stiff neck while side-sleeping leads to deeper wrinkles or creases on the side of the face.


5. Skipping Night Time Skin Care Routine
Skipping this vital step in your nighttime routine also means your blocking your way to achieving healthy, younger-looking skin.
