Strawberry skin hacks

Keratosis pilaris is caused by excess keratin building up in your hair follicles, leading to hard, red, little bumps on your skin.

The quest for clear skin doesn't stop at the neck. With breakouts possible virtually anywhere you have hair follicles, we're always on the lookout for the best treatments to banish bumps anywhere on the body. But what if the bumps aren't your typical acne comedones? If you're experiencing areas of little, rough bumps that look more like red goosebumps than zits, you may be dealing with keratosis pilaris or KP.

Ok, I know this isn't exactly what you want to hear, but because your keratosis pilaris is part of your DNA, you can't ever fully cure it or get rid of it. That's not to say you can't treat it, though. but these treatments are only effective as long as you use them, as soon as you stop, your bumps will come right back.

So how to relieve the rough, red bumpiness of keratosis pilaris?

The first rule: Exfoliating with harsh scrubs or loofahs can create more inflammation and dryness, making your keratosis pilaris way worse. Instead, once a week, gently massage an AHA-based body scrub over your wet skin (body only) in the shower, letting it sit for 60 seconds before rinsing off.

REN AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum

This resurfacing serum boosts the skin's natural exfoliation process, increasing cell renewal and evening out pigmentation. The probiotic extract helps to lock in moisture for a deeply hydrated, glowing result.

So you know how your keratosis pilaris is made of built-up keratin? Welp, salicylic acid works to dissolve the bonds in your keratin plugs, helping them to shed faster. Just note that this stuff is strong and can be drying. Gently rub it over your wet skin, wait five seconds, then rinse off.

Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA Acne Clearing Gel

Oil-free, fragrance-free deep pore-clearing gel. Advanced formulation with 2% Salicylic Acid (BHA) that penetrates and cleans out pores to clear up acne and blackheads while helping reduce the appearance of pore size, fine lines, wrinkles, acne marks and residual discoloration.

Lactic acid helps dissolve your keratin plugs while also moisturizing your skin. It really, truly works, but only if you use it every day on your body until the world ends.

PCA Skin Body Therapy

A full body moisturizer with 12% lactic acid enhances the skin's natural moisturizing factor, reduces cellular buildup, decreases bacteria proliferation and inhibits the deposit of unwanted pigment.

Retinoids speed up your cell turnover and help your skin shed faster, making it harder for keratin plugs to form in the first place.

Perricone MD Cold Plasma + Fragile Skin Therapy

This multi-tasking body treatment dramatically promotes the most visible signs of stronger, more resilient skin on the arms, shins and other fragile areas prone to damage or bruising.

The last tip:  Glo Skin Beauty Clear Skin Body Spray. On clean skin, lightly mist the body and back acne spray on problem areas. Let the product dry before dressing. Can be used twice a day. If irritation or dryness occurs, decrease use to once a day. Not intended for use on the face or eye area - this stuff works.

Glo Skin Beauty Clear Skin Body Spray

Acne Body Spray visibly treats breakouts and congestion on the body. Synergistic ingredients balance excess oil, protect the skin moisture barrier and help clear skin.

I knowits a ton of steps and products, but if you follow a routine consistently, your keratosis pilaris/strawberry skin/bumpy bumps will start to smooth out within a few weeks. Promise.
